Stories in the Light - Pino's Vino e Cucina
Updated: Nov 26, 2020
Nothing excites us more than finding beautiful Australian brands to fill our homes with. In the 'Have you heard' series, we share our finds and how they inspire us.
It feels like cheating to write about Pino’s Vino e Cucina. The Italian restaurant located in Alexandria, is literally a short walk from where I live, and to write about a neighbourhood friend doesn’t seem hard.
For me, Pino’s is an example of how good interior design is one that transports you to another time and place.
The owners of Pino's are from Rome and when you step into the restaurant, you feel like you’ve been transported to the city and in one of the family-owned restaurants that you find by accident, whilst lost in an alleyway.
That feeling starts the moment you’re outside the restaurant. At night, the windows perfectly frame the diners who are illuminated by a halo of soft amber lights and candles around them. I often walk past feeling a little happier, knowing that the world and all its troubles at the moment, is inconsequential in that exact moment where people are with their loved ones and having good conversation.
Stepping into the restaurant, you can sit either at the bar or at the tables. All the furniture is made of natural, dark coloured wood furniture, stained over the years with stories told over good wine and food. Whilst the lighting is low, it never feels moody nor dark. Instead, it feels cozy - like sitting infant of a fireplace on a winter’s night.
And with the friendly and gracious hospitality of the team at Pinos, private and personal conversations with your dinner partner flow easily and the moment becomes special. My partner and I have both celebrated and commiserated over key events in our life in Pinos and regardless of whether we’re laughing or crying, we always walk out of the restaurant feeling like life is good.
If you haven’t been there, you really should.
