Buying Australian - Koskela

Updated: Nov 26, 2020

Nothing excites us more than finding beautiful Australian brands to fill our homes with. In the 'Have you heard' series, we share our finds and how they inspire us.

A decade ago, I lived in Rosebery and got really excited when Kitchen by Mike opened up in the neighbourhood. I loved the idea of rustic, come home food served up canteen-style and cooked by a superb Chef, Mike McEnearney - ex-head chef at Rockpool.

So naturally, I was in line once it opened. To my surprise as I entered the warehouse whilst still waiting in line, I could see this stunning furniture in the back of the room. That’s when I discovered Koskela.

To be honest, initially I thought the prices were a bit high. But after learning their philosophy, the price point made sense and in my mind, well worth it.

Koskela is authentically Australian made, not just designed in Australia and then manufactured overseas. They make everything in Australia in order to minimise their impact on the environment and society. They also have a passion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, which is reflected in the indigenous art gallery they have on display at the warehouse.
